Gregor’s transformation brings with it a series of emotional transitions and obstacles that he has to overcome. It becomes easier for the family to ignore the fact that Gregor exists than to continue caring for him. But as time goes on, Grete grows older and her priorities change. At first, she cares for Gregor’s needs, feeding and visiting him. It is seen most prominently in Grete, his sister. ![]() He finds sanctuary in dark places, joy in crawling on the ceilings and the walls, and is only able to stomach rotten food.Īdditionally, there is the transformation that his family members undergo. As the novel progresses, Gregor struggles to hang onto his humanity, it slips from him as he turns to the things that bring him pleasure in his new form. There is the primary transformation in the novel, that of Gregor, a human man, into a large insect, but there are several others as well. The first and most important theme in The Metamorphosis is transformation. Such themes in Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis touch on what it means to be human and what happens when those around you stop regarding you as such. ![]()

In summertime day-trippers came out from the towns on the new railway, to hire a punt or a skiff at the Swan and spend an afternoon on the river with a bottle of ale and a picnic, but in winter the drinkers were all locals, and they congregated in the winter room. These different elements had been harmonized by the thatch that roofed them, the lichen that grew on the old stones, and the ivy that scrambled up the walls. It had been constructed in three parts: one was old, one was very old, and one was older still. The Swan was a very ancient inn, perhaps the most ancient of them all. It felt as through the novel was not progressing and I become very bored and was forcing myself to continue to read. ![]() I also think that when it comes to the progression of this novel it was quite flat and did not have many interesting climaxes. The transitions throughout the chapter were choppy and could have been more polished. The later book has most of the same characters. In 2010 Turow wrote a sequel, 'Innocent' in which Rusty is again on trial, this time for the murder of his wife Barbara. I would have to say that the writing style improved as the novel progressed. 'Presumed Innocent' (1987) was Scott Turows break-out best seller in which Chief Deputy Prosecutor Rusty Sabich is put on trial for the murder of his former lover Carolyn Polhemus. At times I felt as through I was reading a novel that was written by more than one person. Another aspect of this novel that I disliked was that the writing style was not consistent. ![]() I found Rusty's flashbacks to be not clearly identified, which caused confusion and resulted in me being confused and having to reread to make sure I was understanding what I was happening. The writing style of this book is the main part of the book that I disliked. ![]() ![]() ![]() MinaLima released their special edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone back in 2020, and the illustrated Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets hit the shelves the following year.
